Special Devices of San Rafael, CA recently received UL approval and CE certification for its RF Switch Matrix product. Underwriters Laboratories is the global source for product safety providing safety standards and compliance testing. Products displaying the globally recognized UL logo or CE logo have been tested and approved by rigorous methods at a UL approved laboratory.
"Designing for compliance is no small task," says Dave Weisberg, Project Manager for the RF Multiplexer product. UL publishes a 500+ page standards document that covers all electrical and mechanical standards for UL compliance. In order to achieve UL approval, a design must comply with all UL standards and be fully tested by UL engineers against those standards. The process takes months of design and administrative work. Dave recognizes that "Now that we've been through the process, it will be easier in the future to get certification for new products and systems."
Special Devices's RF Multiplexer product is designed to switch RF signals up to 18GHz and can be configured for 16, 32, or 64 channels. "UL approval opens up new markets and new opportunities for our entire product line" remarks Weisberg.
